NATURAL WAYS TO KEEP YOUR HOME CLEAN

CLEAN POTS WITH BROKEN EGGSHELLS
If you've whipped up some scrambled eggs for breakfast then don't just throw away the shells.
A handful of broken eggshells make a great scrub for cleaning your pots and pans.
Mix them with soapy water for a brilliant abrasive that will scrub away stubborn stains.

CLEAN STAINLESS STEEL SURFACES WITH OLIVE OIL
If the stainless steel surfaces in your home are beginning to look a little dull then grab a bottle of olive oil and a cloth.
Buff your surfaces with the oil-soaked cloth and enjoy the newfound shine.

GRAPEFRUIT AND SALT TO CLEAN A BATHTUB
If you’ve moved into a new home and the bathtub looks really grimy, don’t despair.
Cut a grapefruit in half and sprinkle it with salt. Wet your bathtub, put some more salt on the surface and start scrubbing. Simply wash the residue off at the end.

EPSOM SALTS TO CLEAN YOUR BATHROOM TILES
You might be more used to adding it to your bath, but if your tiles need a good clean then trusty Epsom salt also comes in handy.
Mix together some washing-up-liquid with Epsom salt and rub the mixture in with an old toothbrush to remove ingrained grime.

POLISH SHOES WITH BANANA PEEL
If you've run out of shoe polish, try using that leftover banana peel from your lunch.
Take the skin and rub it all over your shoes to get back the shine.

CLEAN VASES AND BOTTLES WITH RICE
Do you have some strange-shaped vases or bottles that need a good clean?
Take two spoonfuls of rice and pour in some warm water to soak for 15 minutes.
Shake it well, pour it out and rinse with more water. The rice will help to scrub stains away.

REMOVE PAINT FROM HAIR AND SKIN WITH OLIVE OIL
If your children have got into a bit of a mess with their paints one rainy afternoon, grab a cotton wool pad with olive oil and gently rub the stain out.

USE LEMON TO REMOVE RUST FROM CLOTHES
If you’ve discovered your lovely white t-shirt has a nasty rust stain on it, grab a lemon.
First wet the stain with water, then rub a cut lemon on it. Saturate it with lemon juice and then hang your t-shirt out in the sunshine. Let the sun naturally bleach it, then give it a wash as you would do normally.

TABLE SALT TO CLEAN STAINED MUGS
Mugs can often become stained with tea and coffee over time, but it is possible to get them as good as new.
Rub the stained areas with some table salt and the marks should come off in no time at all.

LEMON DUST CLOTHS
Make your own reusable dusting cloths with lemons, olive oil, distilled vinegar and rosemary sprigs.
Mix equal parts water and vinegar and then simply add a few drops of olive oil and place inside a container.
You can even cut up old t-shirts or clothing that's past its best to use for the cloths to be even more environmentally friendly.

SHINE WOODEN FURNITURE WITH COCONUT OIL
Restore your beautiful wooden furniture to its former glory with a mixture of melted coconut oil, white wine vinegar and a squeeze of lemon juice.
Spray onto your furniture and then polish and buff with a clean cloth.

CLEAN UP BROKEN GLASS WITH BREAD
Bread acts like a sponge and all those pesky small fragments of glass will stick to it.
Firstly, carefully pick up the largest pieces with your hands and then gently press own on the smaller shards with the bread to lift them.

RUB LEMON JUICE ON YOUR TAPS
If you’re in a hard water area then chances are you have lime scale problems.
Grab a lemon and rub the juice all over your taps. Let it sit overnight and in the morning wipe it all away with a damp cloth.

COFFEE AS A SURFACE SCRUBBER
This is a great use for some old coffee grounds. As they are mildly abrasive they won’t damage your surfaces, but you can use them to scrub food from kitchen counters, dirty dishes and cooking hobs.

CLEAN ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS WITH TABLE SALT
Artificial flowers look perfect all year round - except for when they get all dusty and dirty.
Grab your fake flowers and put them in a paper bag with some table salt. Shake as hard as you can and the dust and dirt will be dislodged by the salt.

BRIGHTEN WHITES WITH LEMON JUICE
Add half a cup of lemon juice to your rinse cycle the next time you do a wash and see how fresh your whites look afterwards.
